US History Decade Project
Choose one of the decades from the 1960s-2000s (decade = 10 years!) that you are most interested in.
Research the decade and create one of the following products:
☆ A physical scrap-book (binder) to turn in
☆ A visual display I can hang on the wall
☆ A collage with captions I can hang on the wall
☆ Use MovieMaker or Photostory to create your presentation. You can use your own pictures, or pictures from online and add it to music to tell a story.
If you use MovieMaker, you will need to complete the whole project on the same computer - Photostory can be downloaded for free if you do not currently have it on your computer
☆ Other: Any other idea you have, I will be willing to discuss it with you.
However you choose to display your information, please include all of the following:
*A title
*“Big Events of the Decades” – select the 15 most important events of the decade. Present the events either in chronological order (time line) or in order of importance (so #1 would be the one you think is the most important. For each event, include a picture, a brief (1 or 2 lines written in your own words!) summary & why it is important)
*Presidents – include the names and pictures of all the presidents of the decade. Submit a statement about each president that includes events he was involved in and whether you think he was a good leader or not.
*Major sporting events- include pictures, with captions & a short description of each
*Major television shows- include pictures with captions
*Major movies & film stars -include pictures from major movies of the decade with captions & pictures of major film stars with captions
*Music of the decade- include pictures of artists from the decade with caption
*Fashion & fads of the decade – include pictures with captions

World War I Web Quest
Task
You are going to complete a web quest using the sites that are provided to you on Mr. Sacculo's Web Quest .Please note that your web quest has a few different requirements than Mr. Sacculo's - so, use his sites, but create your assignment based on the requirement on this page!!!
This web quest invites you to relive your great grandfather's experience during World War One. As you discover his story you will compile a scrapbook for other members of your family so they too can learn about their past. The scrapbook will include photos and explanations of your findings. The finished product can be in book form, a poster, a PowerPoint presentation or an online poster created by using www.glogster.com which allows you to create posters with image and texts. If you do a powerpoint, please save it in your folder and then e-mail it to me at [email protected]. If you do a Glog, save it and send me the link to your Glog at [email protected]. If you prefer to do a hard copy scrapbook, print your pictures and quotes and I will provide you with posterboard or any other paper supplies I've got.
Process
1) You will need to gather basic information about WWI. The names, places, battles and weapons mentioned don't come with full explanations. Before you can understand what your great granddad was involved in you should find out why he wound up there. As an introduction to your scrapbook use the sites listed below to answer the following questions:
· What was the role of militarism as a cause of WWI?
· What was the role of alliances as a cause of WWI?
· What was the role of imperialism as a cause of WWI?
· What was the role of nationalism as a cause of WWI?
· Which countries were in the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente?
· Which countries made up the Central Powers and the Allied Powers?
· What was the Zimmerman Telegraph?
· What is “total war?” – Find a picture that demonstrates what total war looks like
The answers to the above questions can all be found in the websites on Mr. Saccullo’s World War I Web quest. Your answers and pictures will serve as an introduction to your scrapbook
2) One of the letters talked about living in trenches yet it didn't give you a clear picture of trenches and trench warfare.
· What was the Western Front?
· What was the purpose of a trench?
· "No man's land" and "going over the top" are phrases he keeps writing about. They sound frightening. Were they? Why?
_Find a minimum of 2 quotes from World War I soldiers. Include the quote and the name of the person who said it.
Use the sites from Mr. Saccullo’s World War I Web quest to explore your great grandfather's experience in the trenches. Include 3 - 4 pictures with your explanations
Select 2 additional topics from http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk%20/to summarize for your classmates. Include a page devoted to each topic with pictures, comments from soldiers, an explanation of the significance of the topic and any other facts you find interesting.
3) The battles sound brutal. You're amazed anyone survived. These weapons were killing machines. Gas, machine guns, tanks, flamethrowers and hand grenades were just some of the products of this industrialized war. Using the links below Select 5 weapons, describe their use in warfare and supply pictures of the weapon.
4) The war finally ended in 1918. His letters indicate he is a tired man who yearns to see America again. Like all of the other soldiers he believes this is going to be the "war to end all wars." A peace treaty, he believes, will bring an end to this madness. Using the links below answer the following questions to complete your WebQuest.
· What was the Treaty of Versailles?
· What did it hope to achieve? (Describe three main goals)
· Why was the League of Nations created? ---use this site instead of the one Mr. Sacculo offers. It is easier to understand.
